Venom & Vanity started off as an idea to connect the lore of Medusa to the alternative community and grunge aesthetic. Medusa is ultimately famous for her deadly stare and striking appearance. In her story, she was cursed with a look that was seen as undesirable and monsterous by the public- snakes for hair. Although the curse was meant to punish her, it ended up empowering her instead! She became known as this extremely powerful creature, that with one small glance could turn anyone into stone! All because of her 'scary' appearance. In today's fashion trends, rainbow colors and edgy styles are dominating the world. However, just a few years ago mohawk styled hair and gothic/punk/alt looks were not accepted by overall society. Those looks were seen exactly as Medusa: Undesirable, monsterous, scary. Being apart of that style myself, I can say from personal experience that appearing in alt fashion makes me comfortable in my own skin, which then makes me feel confident, strong, and empowered! I know many can relate when I say that Medusa is a beautifully badass inspiration, not an ugly monster.
